Description

Aphid flies belong the the family Chamaemyiidae and their larvae are specialized aphid predators.  The larvae resemble those of small syrphids, but tend to be more flattened and compact. The two prominent spiracles on stalks protuding from the posterior (visible also on the pupa) are a distinguishing feature.
